Pinky is the perfect X in our offense. He gets 5 balls a game and is good for 2 comebacks and a bomb. Lelie is one of 2 WR in Denver. Since their TE have been awful, he gets what, 30% of the throws under normal circumstances? Despite being a pass happy offense, Pinky never got much. I think in the NFCCG against Atlanta, Pinky had THREE balls thrown to him because we spread it out so much. I'm not disputing this. But you can't discount that Pinkston didn't even play last year. He's #1 strength is his speed. Will it be affected after that achilles injury? What if he doesn't make it back? This is not a knock on Pinky...if he put up his 2004 numbers in 2005...I'd be satisfied. But he's coming off a very tough injury. All I am saying is that if Lelie could be had for a TO and a 5th....the Eagles would be CRAY not to do this. Of course this is speculation and probably a moot point....but a good discussion nonetheless. If we don't deal TO in the 2 weeks....we get nothing for him. So you are essentially trading a 5th round pick for a young, accomplished NFL deep threat. |

I want TO for a 3rd-4th rounder. I think someone will get desperate for a splash and pay. All it takes is one dumb GM...maybe Detroit, they seem to like WRs... |

I love dawkins20's idea, and it's a possibility. But you're right RealCrippler, I'm not worried about not getting anything for TO. Someone is gonna get ancy and pull the trigger. It's just a matter of time. |

Do you overpay for intangibles? For example, if the Eagles end up signing Antwan Randle El I think they will have to overpay. With Wayne off the market ARE is probably the best WR on the market. My problem with signing Randle El is that he doesn't replace OR provide us with insurance if Pinkston gets re-injured. He CAN play the X and be moderately succesful out there....but the slot is where he makes his living. Sound familiar to someone we already have? I'm not going to get into the argument of whether or not ARE is better than Greg Lewis....but I personally don't believe that there is a huge drop off when comparing ARE the WR and Greg Lewis the WR. So why would we overpay for ARE? 1) While he doesn't fill a specific hole in our offense, he does bring more talent to the core. He provides nice depth and doesn't force us to depend on Billy McMullen or a draft pick if one of the current top 3 WRs go down. 2) He's buddy-buddy with McNabb. He works out with McNabb in Arizona with other Eagles. They have some chemistry and get along well. Would the FO bring in ARE as another sign of support and reaching out to their franchise player? 3) It seems that ARE is a character guy by all accounts. Don't discount this intangible. It is very valuable to the Eagles and the FO. He's also a Super Bowl Champion. 4) He is an explosive punt returner. We just haven't been able to fill that position and get any consistency from it in 2 years. AR seems very hesitant allowing Westbrook to go back there full-time. 5) He provides even more BPA to this offense. We have Westbrook, Moats, LJ, and Brown....all capable of making big plays. Despite this....we lacked big plays last year. Randle El provides those plays whether it is throwing the ball, running the ball, catching a deep ball, drawing PI, etc. Personally....I just can't get past the fact that he's not the answer at "X"....which is where the hole potentially lies in this offense. For that reason, I personally can't justify overpaying ARE. All that being said...I have outlined 5 valid reasons why it would be tempting to do so...and in turn...wouldn't be upset if AR and the FO decide to bring the kid aboard. Thoughts? |

D20- I think after all the go-round on every individual player we might pick up, I have come to the conclusion that this year, more than ever, it will be the totality of the offseason that either makes or breaks rather than scrutinizing each individual move. By itself, I don't love the idea of overpaying for ARE, especially as you point out that he doesn't really play the WR position we most need. I think I'm still clinging to the Lelie for TO deal myself, as that does fill an immediate need. But, there is no way to argue that ARE doesn't make this team better, even if primarily for the 5 reasons you outline above. So for this, I also wouldn't be upset if they overpaid for him. In the end, the Eagles need to improve the obvious positions (DE, DT, LB, WR) AND do whatever they can to improve the team chemistry, bring back swagger, boost McNabb's confidence, and fix the return game. Clearly ARE would go a long way on the intangibles, but so could other guys. We will overpay for some combination of skills and "other." Maybe at WR, maybe somewhere else... I cannot wait for this ball to get rolling. Is it March YET? |

Hey D20, Great set of posts, as always, my man! I'd just like to add that I think the fact about Randel El that you have to remember is that there are other teams that are going to want him, and if that's the case, I wonder if the Eagles want to get into a bidding war and REALLY overpay for Randel El. I just feel that someone is going to be willing to pay more than Randel El. After his playoff and Superbowl performances, someone is gonna offer him the world. |

Also, I wanted to ask you: Moulds isn't an option to you? It looks like in all likelihood he will get cut. Just want your opinion. |

I just feel that someone is going to be willing to pay more than Randel El. After his playoff and Superbowl performances, someone is gonna offer him the world. I agree with your point about Randle El. Specifically with Wyane now off the market. Several teams will go hot and heavy after him. That's why I likely pass on him. Chicago is rumoured to be very interested. He'd abe a PERECT fit for them. With Muhammed on one side...and an emerging Berrian on the other to stretch the field. Randle El could have a field day playing out of the slot and grabbing the underneath stuff. Also, I wanted to ask you: Moulds isn't an option to you? It looks like in all likelihood he will get cut. Just want your opinion. I'd certainly consider him. But I happen to believe he won't come cheap. If he does get cut...he's instantly the best WR on the market. Several teams are looking for WRs. People often think when they see a 30+ veteran get cut, that he will be willing to take a chepa salary, and go to a contender to have a chance for a ring. That's not always the case. A team throws the dollar signs at this guy...he forgets all about that ring. Also...I'm not sure how well Moulds fills a hole in our offense. Sure he gives McNabb another go-to guy...but what exactly does he bring to this WCO? He's not going to be a guy who stretches the field for us like Pinkston. IMO the money it would take to sign Moulds would be better spent elsewhere. |
